Recent evidence continues to bolster the muscle health benefits that HMB has for aging adults.

A meta-analysis of nine studies that included 448 total participants, researchers concluded that HMB supplementation was able to increase fat free mass in older adults independent of an exercise stimulus.  Thus, making HMB an effective tool to help prevent muscle loss as we age.

While the concept that protein is needed to help maintain or build muscle mass, unfortunately as we age it can be harder to ingest enough protein to meet the body’s needs.

“There is a balance between protein synthesis and protein breakdown and with aging it moves more toward breakdown.  HMB supplementation can help shift that back toward what it looked like when you were younger,” states Shawn Baier, COO of Metabolic Technologies.
