Fit mom & wellness coach Jada Kelly shares her 3 secrets to build yourself into a strong, confident woman.

We all love the idea of being confident, but many of us (including me) struggle with feeling confident CONSISTENTLY. What can we do to build and maintain confidence? Let’s start with understanding what it actually is! The Oxford Dictionary defines confidence as a feeling of self-assurance arising from one’s appreciation of one’s own abilities or qualities. Confidence is an internal thing! Don’t get confidence confused with the ego pump that you get from a compliment or someone else celebrating your skills or abilities. Confidence is rooted in what you believe about yourself and the first step of it is appreciating you! Here are my 3 tips to building and STAYING confident no matter what is happening externally.

Tip 1- Affirm yourself in the MIRROR!

Cultivate appreciation for yourself by saying the things that you appreciate about yourself OUT LOUD in the mirror! If you don’t know what to say, start with some of these statements:

“I am filled with hope and expect the best for myself”

“I let go of thoughts and fears that hold me back”

“I move forward with joy”

“I am purposed, loved and valued”

“I love others and bring joy into the lives of others”

“I am determined and resilient”

Using this practice can change your way of thinking, help to develop a stronger mindset and increase your appreciation of your abilities. To learn more about affirming yourself in the mirror, look up The Mirror Technique.

Tip 2- Remind yourself of what you have OVERCOME!

We have all been through challenging seasons in life. If you are reading this, you have overcome something difficult in life (probably more than once)! Remind yourself of past victories, not to wish for the challenge again, but instead to remind yourself that YOU CAN GET THROUGH HARD THINGS. Sometimes, we just need to know that if we did it before, we can get through again.

Tip 3- Take steps to become a HEALTHIER version of you!

We touched on using mental practices to increase confidence, but words and thoughts will only get you so far! Physically doing the best for your body will take your confidence to the next level. Incorporate movement with the purpose of exercise and choose to consume foods that enhance the function of your body aka “life giving foods.” Overtime, you will feel more energy, increased mental clarity, decreased fat storages, improved skin quality, improved sleep, decreased risk of disease and that’s just to name a few of the benefits! The better your physical body feels, the more likely it is for your confidence to increase.

Lastly, remember that building and maintaining confidence is a lifelong process. No matter where you find yourself, you can always build from there!

Let’s get building!
